Microsoft introduces the Surface Laptop 4 with Intel or AMD processors

We've seen plenty of leaks for Microsoft's Surface Laptop 4 over the last month. We can now put an end to those, as the Surface Laptop 4 has been officially announced, complete with options for Intel 11th Gen Core processors or Ryzen 4000 series processors.

There will be two AMD APU custom options, specifically made for Microsoft, and another two Intel CPU options. If you're looking for an AMD-powered laptop, you'll be able to choose between the Ryzen 5 4680U and Ryzen 7 4980U, both featuring Radeon graphics. The Intel CPU options are the  Intel Core i5-1135G7 and Core i7-1185G7, both featuring integrated Intel Xe graphics.

The remaining internal specifications are fairly similar to the Surface Laptop 3. You can either choose 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB LPDDR4X RAM, and a 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSD. There's also a USB-C port, a USB-A port, a Surface Connect port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Moreover, the Surface Laptop 4 features a 720p webcam, dual far-field microphones, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

Just like its predecessor, there will be a 13.5-inch and a 15-inch model, both with 3:2 aspect ratio displays with 10-point multi-touch and support for the Surface Pen. The 13.5-inch model's screen has a 2256×1504 resolution, whereas the 15-inch's screen features a 2496×1664 resolution.

Available in Ice Blue, Sandstone, Platinum, and Matte Black, the 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 4 has two finishes. The metal body is only available in Sandstone and Matte Black, leaving Ice Blue and Platinum with the Alcantara finish. the 15-inch model is only available in Sandstone and Matte Black with a metal body.

The new Microsoft Surface Laptop is scheduled to release on April 15. The 13.5-inch model starts at $999.99/€1,149.00 equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5 4680U, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD. The 15-inch model is slightly more expensive, with an initial price of $1,299.99/€1499.00 and featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 4980U, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD.

KitGuru says: While it is odd to see Microsoft opting for Ryzen 4000 over the newer Ryzen 5000U processors, perhaps going with the older generation helped keep costs down. If you were to buy a Surface Laptop 4, would you opt for an Intel or AMD model?
