Xbox Series X supply to remain ‘constrained’ until at least June

Since launch, it has been difficult for most to get hold of a next-gen console. Late last year we heard warnings that stock shortages are likely keep occurring in early 2021, but continued issues mean that Microsoft likely won't be able to meet demand until much later in the year.

Speaking with The New York Times, Microsoft's head of investor relations, Mike Spencer, discussed the Xbox Series X/S console supply situation.

During the interview, Spencer explained that the company sold every Xbox unit it could make in Q4 2020. Unfortunately, due to logistics, obtaining all the components necessary to build the console and other tech companies competing for manufacturing capacity, Xbox supply is likely to remain in a tough position until at least June.

As pointed out by The Verge, AMD, the company behind the chips powering both the Xbox Series X/S and PS5, has also been warning that supply shortages will continue into late 2021. AMD CEO, Lisa Su, recently told investors that there is “some tightness” in the supply chain throughout the first half of the year.

KitGuru Says: The bad news here is that stock shortages aren't going to improve anytime soon, seemingly for both consoles and PC components. However, in the second half of the year, we should start to see things bounce back – assuming someone like Apple doesn't usurp all of the 2H 2021 production lines.
