European Consumer Organisation files complaint over Nintendo Switch ‘Joy-Con drift’

Nintendo has faced plenty of criticism over the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con controllers. Shortly after the console's launch, it became clear that the Joy-Con controllers were prone to a ‘drifting' issue, which has gone unfixed to date. This has led to multiple class-action lawsuits over in the US and now, it seems that Nintendo could also be facing some legal trouble in Europe too. 

The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), is bringing a case against Nintendo over ‘Joy-Con Drift' to the European Commission. The BEUC claims to have received around 25,000 complaints about this issue from across Europe. As a result, an official complaint is being submitted to the European Commission.

The BEUC is hoping that the Commission will launch an investigation into the issue and push Nintendo to “urgently address” Joy-Con Drift, something that the company has failed to fix over the last several years.

As part of the press release announcement, the BEUC's director, Monique Goyens, explained: “Consumers assume the products they buy to last an appropriate amount of time according to justified expectations, not to have to pay for expensive replacements due to a technical defect. Nintendo must now come up with proper solutions for the thousands of consumers affected by this problem.”
