Demon’s Souls’ much-improved character creator has been detailed

While the Soulsborne series is known and beloved for many things, you’d be hard pressed to find a fan that would defend FromSoftware’s character creators. Being far from the focus of the games, previous titles have offered much less robust character creators when compared to its competitors. With the remake of Demon’s Souls set to launch soon however, Bluepoint Games have detailed exactly how it has improved this aspect to the game.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Gavin Moore, the Creative Director for Demon’s Souls offered fans a first look at the new and improved character creator, saying “to create your character as you see fit is to build an emotional connection to the world of Demon’s Souls. You don’t play as a muscle-bound barbarian or a mighty god but an average person, vulnerable and familiar. Together you will face the same fears and overcome the same challenges. Watching your beloved character die is painful, but this spurs you to take revenge, reentering the battle. Each victory is ever sweeter because your creation lives on.”

Providing details on the creation tools itself, Moore revealed that “you will be able to customize your appearance with up to 16 million permutations. We’ve added many more customization options than you’ll remember from the PS3 game, and also worked hard to ensure there is a satisfying variety possible for those who wish to tinker with every slider. Play as yourself, or who you want to be.”

As can be seen with the example images, the character creator appears to be significantly more robust, allowing for creations which appear much more ‘realistic’ when compared to the PS3 game – to put it nicely. Though not a game-changing feature, a well made character creator is always appreciated, no matter the game, and so it's encouraging to see Bluepoint Games putting clear effort into this aspect of the remake.
