iPhone 12 will reportedly only come with 64GB of storage

There was once a time when all the digital data you needed could fit on an 80KB floppy disk. Those times are long gone however, and with each passing year, file sizes, be it for videos, pictures, apps, or games have continued to rise. On the Android side of things, many device manufacturers have moved with the times, making 128GB phones the default storage. While early rumours suggested Apple would be doing the same, it appears as though this may no longer be the case.

According to Apple leaker Jon Prosser, who has an accuracy rating of 72.7% when it comes to Apple related leaks, the base model iPhone 12s (which are rumoured to be announced at an upcoming Apple event on the 13th of October) will come with 64GB of storage. This is counter to previous rumours which claimed that Apple would be doubling the base storage on all of its iPhones this year from 64GB to 128GB.

According to Prosser, this will be the case, but only for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. As such, the standard iPhone 12 and 12 mini will reportedly be offered in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB variants, with each increase most likely seeing a £50-£100 premium added.

64GB has been the base storage on iPhones since the iPhone 8 back in 2017. With the rapid rate of technological improvements seen in the mobile industry, it’s a shame to see that memory storage, at least on iPhones, will not be moving with the times – though of course we have to wait for the official announcement before jumping to conclusions.
