Microsoft unveils next-gen Xbox Series S for £249

After many months of leaks and rumours, Microsoft has officially announced the Xbox Series S console today. The goal here is to deliver “next gen performance in the smallest Xbox ever”, all while undercutting the competition on price.

The Xbox Series S is launching with a $299 price tag, much lower than many insiders had indicated in recent months. Here in the UK, the console will be launching at £249.

Microsoft hasn't announced anything else, but previous leaks have led us to believe that it will feature the same Zen 2 CPU as the Xbox Series X, but with a cut-back 4 TFLOP GPU. As we can see from the image above, this is indeed an ‘all digital' console, with no disc drive to be found.

The design is quite similar to the Xbox One S, particularly for cooling, with the same large fan sitting on top of the console and blowing cool air down onto the SoC. At the moment, the Xbox Series S is expected to launch alongside the Xbox Series X in November.

KitGuru Says: The Xbox Series S price is incredibly aggressive, but it will be interesting to see how much of a difference the hardware makes for next-gen games.
