The original Super Mario All-Stars comes to Switch’s SNES Online

While Nintendo has slowed down the rate at which it adds new titles to its NES and SNES Online services, the console manufacturer recently brought a new game to the service – or more accurately, a collection of games. In celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary, the original Super Mario All-Stars has joined the Switch’s SNES Online service.

Announced during the Super Mario 35th anniversary Nintendo Direct, the console manufacturer revealed that the from-the-ground-up remakes of the 4 classic NES Mario titles were shadow-dropping onto the Switch SNES Online service. The 4 games in question are:

  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3

While these titles are technically already available via the NES Online app, the All-Stars versions include completely remade graphics, mimicking the style of the SNES, featuring 16-bit graphics instead of the original’s 8-bit. Furthermore, gameplay itself is altered slightly, which some people prefer, while others don’t.

Super Mario All-Stars is available for free to all those that are subscribed to Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Online service, and joins over 70 other titles available across both the NES and SNES Online apps.

With Super Mario 3D All-Stars being announced for the Switch, it only makes sense that the original All-Stars collection was brought to Nintendo’s current system – and unlike the 3D All-Stars, this version will be available for more than just 6 months.
