Apple A14X Bionic Geekbench 5 score surfaces, on par with Intel Core i9-9880H

It is still early days for Apple's next-gen Bionic SoC, but so far, it looks like it will give a laptop 9th Gen Intel Core i9 a run for its money. Geekbench 5 benchmark scores of the Apple A14X Bionic have surfaced, and the results are impressive, offering as much performance as the Intel 9th Gen flagship mobile processor.

Not long ago, Apple decided to move its Macs to ARM processors. The first Mac to be available with an ARM processor will be the Mac Mini, working as a stepping stone for developers. It's expected that the upcoming Bionic SoCs will be manufactured on TSMC's 5nm node, and they should eventually equip Apple's whole lineup of mobile devices.

Youtuber Luke Miani shared a graphic showcasing the evolution of the Bionic SoC, starting from the A8 up to the A14X. The Bionic A14 and A14X haven't been released yet, but performance has been estimated based on leaks and the typical performance gain between Apple's X and non-X SoCs.

While the A14 is scoring a bit above the 4500 mark, the A14X is expected to reach a score “around 7480”. If this is proven to be true, the A14X will be scoring about the same as an Intel Core i9-9880H. Don't forget that unlike the A14X, this Intel CPU is a 45W TDP 8C/16T CPU that needs a decent cooling system to keep it under control. The Core i9-9980H was equipped in 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019) and other high-end laptops.

Similarly to what the A12Z will be to the A12X, Apple might produce an “A14Z” to be used on Macbook laptops, offering higher clocks and/or extra GPU cores enabled.
