It has been quite some time since Microsoft announced its first Surface-branded smartphone. Now, in a surprise announcement, it would appear that the Surface Duo is now ready and will begin shipping in early September. 

The Microsoft Surface Duo is an Android smartphone with a two displays joined by a 360-degree hinge. You can use each screen to multitask, use a Surface-branded stylus to write, draw etc and of course, you get the full freedom of Android.

The Surface Duo ships with two 5.6-inch OLED displays, a Snapdragon 855 SoC and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. As explained by Microsoft's Chief Product Officer, Panos Panay, the Surface Duo isn't “trying to reinvent the phone”, but it does aim to be a “better way to get things done”.

Unfortunately, the Surface Duo is only releasing in the US for now, with a launch date set for the 10th of September.
