Beyond Good & Evil movie announced by Netflix

In recent years, the adaptation of video games into other media has seen a significant resurgence. From projects such as Netflix’s Castlevania anime, to Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog, the film and television industry has once again expressed great interest in the rich IP coming from games. The latest adaption to be announced is that of a Beyond Good & Evil movie, which is currently in development for Netflix.

Announced by the streaming giant, Netflix said: “Some good news for Beyond Good & Evil fans. A Netflix feature film adaptation of @Ubisoft's epic space pirate adventure is in development!”

Though very little else is known about the project, some pre-existing promotional art was attached alongside the announcement, featuring characters from the upcoming Beyond Good & Evil 2 video game, suggesting perhaps that the film will adapt the second entry, and not the first.

Furthermore, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rob Letterman, who previously directed the much-loved and highly successful Detective Pikachu, is on board to also direct this project – which has been confirmed to be a “hybrid live-action/animated feature.”

Though there is currently no release date for the film, it’ll be interesting to see whether the title will in any way tie-in to the upcoming video game – which as of right now has no release date either.

Netflix recently announced that it has also teamed up with Ubisoft to create a Splinter Cell series. Time will tell whether any other Ubisoft properties are picked up for adaptation.
