The King is dead, long live the king says Noctua

It's been a while since any cooler has got close to the performance of the NH-D14. But at Computex 2011, something new was indeed spotted, on a small stand, tucked away in a dark corner. This could get interesting.

While the world plus dog prepares for the arrival of Intel's socket 2011 processors ‘some time soon', the leading cooler manufacturers are preparing to take the heat. Quite literally.

On the Noctua stand at Computex 2011, was a spread of new ‘concept' products. All of which looked nice, but one in particular grabbed the attention.

Here are some arty close-ups. Have a look and let us know if you're begining to feel primal urges.

This unassuming logo is the source of the Zardon-ardon when it comes to CPU cooling

Even a completely non-scientific user can see that this is a bit of a monster.

It's time for 'low rider' memory modules mate. Keep your heads down - here comes Noctua!

Looking at the text on the spec sheet, this top-of-the-range triple-stack cooler not only has 8 heatpipes – it also offers 20% more surface area for dissipation than the NH-D14. Forget the 120mm fans – you can operate this baby with a pair of 140mm fans. While the mega-modules of memory might not fit, Noctua has done its best and is claiming that you can use sticks up to 70mm high.

Overall, it's the triple stack of fins that seem to provide the biggest change.

More pipes than a cathederal organ whisk the heat away as fast as possible
