LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System leaks

One of the more unexpected stories to come out during 2020 has been Nintendo’s collaboration with LEGO, the plastic toy brick company. Most recently, both companies announced the LEGO Mario set, which sees the iconic mascot plumber recreated in block form. It would appear as though LEGO and Nintendo aren’t done yet however, as it now appears as though a 2500-piece LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is set to be announced soon.

Leaked by VJGamer, the LEGO NES system is said to come with 2646 pieces, and will include a mini CRT TV and game cartridge. The leaked images also suggest that the CRT (which as expected is playing Super Mario Bros.) will feature moving parts, and perhaps even a scrolling screen. The LEGO set will reportedly cost €229.99 and will be released on the 1st of August 2020.

Interestingly, the Super Mario LEGO set, which was announced all the way back in March, also has an expected release date of the 1st of August – which begs the question as to when Nintendo/LEGO plan to officially announce the NES set. One rumour is postulating that a Nintendo Direct could take place some time this month, so perhaps it is then that Nintendo plans to unveil the LEGO console.

Though €230 may seem like a steep price, LEGO have previously released a number of high quality and high-profile sets – such as the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars, which costs £649.99. For fans of both LEGO and Nintendo, the LEGO NES system is likely to prove to be a unique collectible.
