Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 goes into production at TSMC facility

TSMC is reported to have scaled up its production capacity of 5nm and is said to have started production of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 875 SoC as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X60 5G modem.

According to the Chinese tech website 快科技 (meaning ‘fast technology') TSMC has officially started production of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 875. This means that if everything goes according to plan, the Snapdragon 875 can start making its way to smartphone manufacturers by September of this year. The Taiwanese chip manufacturer is reported to have increased its production capacity of 5nm wafers by a magnitude of 6000 since May – which translates to a 10% growth in one month. 

Even though TSMC is busy taking orders for 5nm chips from Qualcomm, it is reported that other companies like Apple and AMD are queuing up with a keen interest in chips made with the small node. TSMC is reported to have commenced with the production of Apple's A14 chips and that AMD is looking to order more than 20,000 wafers per month for its upcoming 5nm GPUs.
