Qualcomm announces its next generation 8-Series Snapdragon flagship

At the annual Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm has unveiled its roadmap for the coming year and declared that 2020 will be the time for 5G multi-gigabit speed to become mainstream.

Qualcomm says that 2020 will be the year that its 5G mobile platforms will define what is possible in flagship smartphones and announced its 2020 8-Series Snapdragon flagship and a new 7-Series integrated 5G platform. The Flagship Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform includes the Snapdragon X55 Modem-RF system to make the world’s most advanced 5G platform, with unmatched connectivity and performance to meet the demands of next-generation flagship devices.

“5G will open new and exciting opportunities to connect, compute, and communicate in ways we’ve yet to imagine and we are happy to be a key player driving the adoption of 5G around the world,” said Amon. “Our Snapdragon 5G mobile platforms announced today will continue to show leadership in the industry and deliver on the promise of scaling 5G in 2020.”

During the first day of the Snapdragon Tech Summit, an announcement suggested the new Snapdragon 865 and 765/765G are expected to power the most advanced smartphones launching in 2020. The 765/765G will bring integrated 5G connectivity, AI processing and Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences. Full platform details are expected to be shared at the Summit today.

Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager, mobile, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., also announced 3D Sonic Max, the latest version of Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, offering a recognition area that is 17x larger than the previous generation. The new design will allow for increased security with simultaneous two-finger authentication being a feature.
