Stadia Games and Entertainment studio picks up Assassin’s Creed veterans

With Stadia now out in the world, Google is going to need to expand its first-party games strategy with exclusive titles to bring players in. We know that Google is looking to open up a few first-party studios around the world at the moment and now, Stadia Games and Entertainment has picked up a few notable Assassin's Creed veterans from Ubisoft to help out with all of that.

Stadia Games and Entertainment is spearheaded by Jade Raymond, a former Ubisoft and EA executive who also worked on key franchises like Assassin's Creed and, for a brief time, Star Wars. Now, Raymond is being joined at Google by some old Ubisoft colleagues, including François Pelland, Mathieu Leduc, and Sébastien Puel.

All three of these latest hires have worked on Assassin's Creed over the years. Puel was an executive producer on each mainline Assassin's Creed title starting with II and ending with Unity. Leduc was previously the leading art director on Watch Dogs and was the assistant art director for the first Assassin's Creed. Finally, Pelland was the executive director at Ubisot Quebec, the studio behind Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Odyssey.

At Stadia Games and Entertainment, Pelland will the head of production, responsible for the studio's first-party games output. Leduc will continue to be an art director.

KitGuru Says: If Stadia can come out with some form of highly praised, critically acclaimed exclusive, then a lot of people will try the service out despite the early issues at launch. Most importantly though, Stadia will need to be more widely available across devices first to make things easier for those looking to jump in.
