Halo: Reach PC minimum system requirements target 60fps and up to 4K

As testing waves continue for Halo: Reach on PC, the developers are getting closer to finalising controls and graphics settings, in addition to matchmaking and crossplay services. As part of the latest Master Chief Collection development update, the current recommended minimum system requirements were revealed, with specs targeting 60 frames per second at resolutions up to 4K.

While Halo: Reach is bound to look better running on PC and Xbox One compared to the original Xbox 360 release, this game is still nearly a decade old, so the system requirements for PC aren’t going to be too demanding. In fact, a reasonable gaming system built any time within the last 8 years should suffice. With the minimum requirements, the developers are also solidifying their commitment to 60 frames per second gameplay, with even the lowest sub-1080p requirements delivering close to that mark.

Minimum specs for Halo: Reach on PC are split between AMD CPU/GPU systems and Intel/Nvidia CPU/GPU combinations. For 60 frames per second at less than 1080p, you will need an AMD Phenom II X4 640T or Intel Core i3-550 processor, 8GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6850 or Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 graphics card. With this configuration, you should get an average frame rate in the low to mid 50 frames per second range.

For those looking to target 1080p, the required hardware is a step up but still completely reasonable:

  • CPU: AMD FX-4100 or Intel Core i7-870
  • GPU: AMD Radeon R7 360 or Nvidia GTX 560Ti
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Average FPS: 61-62 (AMD) 59-61 (Nvidia)

Finally, Halo: Reach also has a minimum spec in place for those targeting 4K at 60 frames per second:

  • CPU: AMD FX-6350 or Intel Core i5-3450
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 480 or Nvidia GTX 770
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Average FPS: 60-62 (AMD) or 60 (Nvidia)

Other games in the collection should end up with different minimum system requirements, as Halo: Reach isn’t getting a full-blown remaster. In the Master Chief Collection, Halo: Reach, Halo: ODST, Halo 3 and Halo 4 are based on the Xbox 360 versions but with an unlocked frame rate and access to higher resolutions. This should make them the easiest to run of the bunch on hardware similar (if not the same) to what is listed for Reach on PC.

With Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 2: Anniversary, hardware requirements should start to differ. These two games had complete remasters, with higher quality graphics settings and remade assets.

KitGuru Says: We still don’t have a release date for Halo: Reach on PC but hopefully the matchmaking, cross play and campaign testing goes well this week so that we can start talking about a release window, even if we don’t get an exact date. Are any of you taking part in the Halo: Reach testing this week? What do you think of the minimum requirements listed for PC?
