MSI Shows Off Six-Core Intel Comet Lake Core i7-10710U Prestige 14 Laptop

Yesterday at Intel’s Technology Open House event, we got the chance to catch up with Natalie from MSI on one of their new ultraportable laptops for content creators. Importantly, the MSI Prestige 14 is one of the first ultraportable laptops to be shown with Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake CPU in six-core form – the Core i7-10710U.

Clearly the star of the show for the MSI Prestige 14 is the support for Intel’s six-core, twelve-thread 10th Gen Comet Lake Core i7-10710U processor. This is the first U-series processor to feature six physical cores and helps Intel to (somewhat) bridge the gap between the performance of U-series and H-series parts.

Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake parts are more of an incremental improvement over their Whiskey Lake predecessors that shipped with up to four physical cores. The chips are built on Intel’s refined 14nm process technology and, given their similarities to Whiskey Lake offerings, can fit inside currently available motherboards for thin and light systems such as MSI’s Prestige 14.

MSI also squeezes up to an Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics card inside the 1.29kg laptop, which is pretty impressive given a comparison against devices such as the Dell XPS 13/XPS 15. Continuing the use of Intel and Intel-derived technologies, MSI deploys a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports and provides 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. Add in the relative efficiency of Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake processors and MSI is claiming all-day battery life capability.

The 14-inch full-HD or UHD screen was, subjectively, very pleasing to view. We spoke to Tracy from MSI who highlighted that the 100% SRGB, 100% Adobe RGB, and Delta-E of less than 2 make the screen ideal for use with photography or video content creation.

One neat feature, as shown in the video, is the ability to rotate the screen a full 180 degrees. This is ideal for users who position their laptop on a stand alongside a secondary monitor, or even colleagues who want to collaborate and quickly show each other’s ideas.

KitGuru Says: Superb screen, up to six-core Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake CPU and up to an Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics chip, MSI’s sleek Prestige 14 could be ideal for content creators who value portability. It really is impressive to see a six-core CPU inside a 1.29kg chassis.
