PNY Pro Elite 1TB External SSD Drive Review

Rating: 8.0.

Probably better known for their range of Nvidia based graphics cards – be it consumer or Quadro – than anything else, PNY has added a small range of fast external SSDs to their product portfolio. Dubbed the Pro Elite, these external drives use a USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C interface and come priced around the £135 mark.

The Pro Elite product line is made up of three capacities; 250GB, 500GB and the top of the range 1TB drive that we are looking at here. PNY doesn’t state what controller or which NAND the drive uses in the specification sheet but hazarding a guess for the NAND, we would say its 3D TLC NAND.

There are small differences between the drives when it comes Sequential performance. The entry 250GB drive is rated at up to 880MB/s for reads and 900MB/s for writes. The 500GB drive is slower with reads at 865MB/s reads and 875MB/s writes while the 1TB drive has the fastest read rating at 890MB/s with writes at 880MB/s.

PNY back the Pro Elite with a 3-year warranty.
