AMD confirms 24-core 3rd Gen Threadripper and Ryzen 9 3950X coming in November

We've known for some time now that AMD is working on 3rd Gen Threadripper based on the new Zen 2 architecture. More recently, leaks began to surface and now today, AMD is officially announcing its new HEDT CPUs, premiering with 24-cores and 48 threads.

In a statement sent out today, AMD told us that “initial members of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor family” will ship in volume this November. Meanwhile, AMD's previously announced Ryzen 9 3950X has been delayed and will now launch at a similar time to Threadripper.

Here is the full quote from AMD:

“We are focusing on meeting the strong demand for our 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processors in the market and now plan to launch both the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X and initial members of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor family in volume this November. We are confident that when enthusiasts get their hands on the world’s first 16-core mainstream desktop processor and our next-generation of high-end desktop processors, the wait will be well worth it.”

With all of that in mind, and news of Intel's upcoming Cascade Lake-X CPUs beginning to leak out, November is shaping up to be another huge month in the CPU market.

KitGuru Says: With the first 3rd Gen Threadripper SKU containing 24-cores, I do wonder how high AMD will end up pushing the core counts. Are many of you looking forward to the launch of the Ryzen 9 3950X or the first Zen 2 Threadripper processors?
