Marvel’s Avengers gameplay debut set for August but most of it has leaked already

Back at E3, Square Enix finally announced Marvel's Avengers with a 2020 release date. The press got to see a behind-closed-doors gameplay demo at the time but the footage had been kept under wraps since then. Now, at San Diego Comic Con, that gameplay section has been shown once again and while it won't be officially released until August, leaks have made the footage public ahead of time.

Marvel's Avengers has been in the works for a few years now in a cross-studio effort between a few teams under Square Enix. The game is set to be a cinematic action adventure with ‘live service' style online elements and new heroes and missions added over time. In terms of what to expect gameplay-wise, this leaked footage on YouTube will give you a look at Thor, Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America in action, albeit in bootleg cam quality.

Those at Comic Con got to see a little bit more than what has leaked so far and while the footage isn't the best quality, it does look like the graphics will end up being impressive, even if there are some character design changes compared to the MCU.

We will get to see the full quality version of this gameplay demo in late August following another showing at Gamescom, although by that point, the footage will already be well-known from various leaks. The full game is set to launch in May 2020 on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and on Google Stadia.

KitGuru Says: I've been playing Ultimate Alliance 3 on the Switch this week to get my Marvel fix. Marvel's Avengers looks fairly impressive so far but we will have to wait and see how fun it is to actually play first-hand. There is also the ‘live service' concern, as that concept is rarely brought to life well, particularly on a first attempt for a publisher. Are many of you looking forward to this game?
