Rainbow Six Siege players will have 54GB patch to download for Operation Burnt Horizon

After three weeks spent on the test server, Operation Burnt Horizon is finally going live in a matter of hours, bringing with it a new map, two new Operators and a whole load of optimisation. Sadly, some players are going to spend hours downloading the patch, as the new season is almost the size of the game itself at 54GB on PC.

Ubisoft announced that downtime would last for approximately 1 hour beginning at 6:00 PST / 9:00 EST / 14:00 GMT, March 6 for PC. Download times after that will wildly vary depending on internet connection, as the developer drops one of the largest patches for the game in recent memory. Console versions will also get access to Operation Burnt Horizon throughout the day, with a slightly smaller 33GB patch on PS4 and 38GB patch on Xbox One.

Within the update, Year 4 Pass owners will get access to the two new Australian Operators Mozzie and Gridlock, while all players will get to dive head on into Outback. Ubisoft has also addressed its first layer of changes to lean spamming by making the head shuffle significantly less, and a range of Dokkaebi changes that will see calls end automatically after 12 seconds, or if a Defender walks into range of a Mute jammer. Overall, the sizeable patch is set to “optimise player experience for future updates” by restructuring how game files are stored, in order to “help consolidate and reduce the overall game size.”

First-hand experience on the test server suggests that there is a lot to look forward to in Operation Burnt Horizon, however many of the interesting changes are set to follow in Year 4, Season 2. This will introduce the Pick and Ban system into Ranked, as well as the long-teased Lion rework, Glaz rework and the swanky new shield designs.

KitGuru Says: Make sure to set the game on download as early as possible in order to be the first to try the new season. Are you excited about the new changes?
