Fallout 76’s PC beta launch brings to light several issues

Yesterday, Bethesda finally extended the Fallout 76 beta to platforms beyond the Xbox One. Unfortunately for PC gamers, a number of issues have come to light following the beta launch. For starters, there are complaints about the game's Field of View and lack of adjustability, but beyond that, some people couldn't actually launch the game due to a bug forcing a redownload.

Fallout 76 is set to be exclusive to Bethesda.net on the PC, skipping Steam for the time being. Unfortunately, the Bethesda launcher had a bug that wouldn't let some players load the game. Instead, they were forced to redownload, causing people to miss the small four-hour beta window. As a result, Bethesda will be extending the beta timeslot on Thursday, the 1st of November. On that day, you'll be able to play from 2PM to 11PM EST. In the UK, that works out to 6PM to 3AM.

Unfortunately, Fallout 76 has issues in other areas. PC performance isn't particularly great, as Tyler McVicker explains in his video on the matter. FOV is locked to 80 and there is no support for 16:10 or 21:9 aspect ratios. Beyond that, on a system featuring a GTX 1070Ti and overclocked Core i7 5820K, the average frame rate was around 45 frames per second at 1080p.

Players can mess around with the .ini file in the Fallout 76 game files to fix issues with motion blur and FOV. Unfortunately, fast travelling or restarting the game will reset the tweaks. Hopefully Bethesda is paying attention and can add some fixes to these issues with graphics option settings.

KitGuru Says: I haven't had a chance to try the Fallout 76 beta yet but I'll probably give it a go on Thursday. Did any of you try the beta yesterday? How did it run for you?
