Alan Wake returns to Steam after renegotiating music licenses

Back in May 2017, Alan Wake was removed from Steam and Xbox Live due to expiring licenses for music used in the game. We didn't know if the game would ever return to sale but Remedy has been working to fix its music licensing issue. Today it was announced that those endeavours were successful, with Alan Wake re-launching on Steam, the game is even on sale to mark the occasion.

Back when Remedy was developing Alan Wake, the team only managed to obtain 7-year licenses for the music. To avoid legal issues, the game had to be pulled from sale once those licenses lapsed. Remedy tapped Microsoft to renegotiate the music licensing and those efforts were fully successful, with all of the original music remaining in the game as it relaunches.

For now, Alan Wake is available again on Steam and GOG but other digital platforms, like Xbox Live, are set to follow. the game is currently on sale for 80 percent off on PC, meaning you can grab it for just £2.
