CD Projekt Red sources outside help for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red has its work cut out for it following the sheer success of The Witcher series, putting an immense amount of pressure on upcoming sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077. The developer has now sought outside help on the title, entering entered “a long-term strategic cooperation” with Digital Scapes Studios.

Digital Scapes houses former BioWare, Radical Entertainment and Relic talent, bringing a variety of expertise to the development of Cyberpunk 2077. Having worked on Dying Light’s Be the Zombie PvP mode, Company of Heroes and the single-player Prototype, Digital Scapes is experienced in “AAA multiplayer console and PC development, development tool creation, asset production, and cloud computing.”

It has not yet been revealed what exactly Digital Scapes will be working on, but the press release states that the studio will be “creating and optimizing technological solutions for use in the development of Cyberpunk 2077.” Given that multiplayer and cloud computing experience is specifically highlighted, it’s believed that the outside developer will be contributing towards previously announced online efforts within the game.

“We are both excited and honoured to work with CD Projekt Red. Their incredibly creative and accomplished team of developers have been pushing narrative-driven, role-playing games to unprecedented levels. We look forward to helping them create the very best video games on the planet,” said Digital Scapes’ Studio Head, Marcin Chady.

We shouldn’t have long to wait, if Turkish publisher Bilkom is to be believed, as it claims that Cyberpunk 2077 will launch as early as next year.

KitGuru Says: The online elements are still rather mysterious. While many believe it could end up like Hitman’s scoring competition, this doesn’t seem ambitious enough for CD Projekt Red’s usual style. What do you hope to see in Cyberpunk 2077?
