Computex 2018: ASUS doubles down on laptops with new Strix Hero II and Strix Scar II

Wrapping up the ROG event at Computex yesterday was the launch of two new Strix laptops, the Scar 2 and Hero 2. The former targets FPS gamers while the latter targets MOBA enthusiasts.

The Strix Scar 2 comes with highlighted keys for WASD keys while the Hero 2 comes with highlighted keys for QWERT to appease MOBA fans. Both come in slim designs, with 15.6-inch 144Hz displays. The panel is IPS but the response time has been cut down to just 3ms, so you'll stay competitive on the go.

Each laptop comes with a six-core Coffee Lake processor, but GPU options do differ. The Hero II comes with a GTX 1060, while the Scar II comes with a GTX 1070. To stop heat from being an issue, ASUS has invested in additional cooling power this year.

The cooling system in these laptops run at a 20 percent faster speed, produce over 42 percent more airflow and increase air pressure by 92 percent. The heatpipe layout has also changed in an effort to spread and dissipate heat more evenly. This should keep components below 90 degrees Celsius while gaming, improving system stability and lifespan. Finally, the fan design has also changed to include two anti-dust tunnels, using centrifugal force,  dust particles should spin straight back out of the laptop.

The other usual specs and features are all there. You can configure these laptops with up to 512GB NVMe SSDs, up to 32GB of 2666MHz DDR4 memory and the keyboard is RGB. The Hero 2 in particular has a 60Hz display option if you want to save some money. In terms of size and weight, you're looking at 26mm thick and 2.4kg light.
