Fortnite lets players step into the shoes of Thanos in Avengers crossover event

Players of Fortnite: Battle Royale began finding strange secret bases when the meteor shower hit last week, prompting thoughts of what might come. Yesterday, it was revealed that this was all leading up to a Thanos-sized Avengers: Infinity War crossover event, putting players in the shoes of the Mad Titan as he utilises super strength and Power Stones to cause mayhem.

Introduced as a part of its v4.1 update, the Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup allows players to become Thanos provided they are first to retrieve the fallen Infinity Gauntlet at the start of the match. If the player dies as Thanos, the Gauntlet is automatically retrievable by another player, however if it is left for too long, then it will disappear only for another meteor to randomly land containing the weapon.

Endowed with the Power Stones, players who assume the Infinity Gauntlet and become Thanos will be granted an array different abilities from no fall damage to super strength, a super jump ability to firing blasts that deal damage over time. Alongside being able to destroy structures with a single punch, Thanos can also regenerate shields by eliminating enemies.

The drawback is that Thanos cannot build structures or use general weapons, to which developer Epic Games says that he “has no need for such petty human devices.”

Alongside the introduction of Thanos, it’s worth noting that the games are usually shorter, with an average time of roughly 15 minutes, thanks to the storm dealing more damage than usual. The first circle will chip away five percent of health, with ten percent being stripped of players caught in the storm thereafter.

Thanos is only available within the Mashup mode for an undisclosed limited time, with no signs of his skin or appearance making its way into ordinary games.

KitGuru Says: Despite numerous hints within the bases, I never would have guessed that one of the biggest games of our time would be pairing up for a promotional event alongside one of the biggest movies. In hindsight, it makes a lot of sense and looks a lot of fun. Have you tried out the Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup?
