Cooler Master has moved on from adding to its MasterBox Q-Series and is now focusing on bolstering its K-Series range instead, introducing its new K500L and K500. The K500L was first seen at last year’s Computex in a very different form, with its new look taking a more ‘gaming’ aesthetic which Cooler Master claims won’t “break the wallet.”
The two MasterBox K500L prototypes shown at Computex 2017 were distinctly different from one another, with Cooler Master trialling an edgier full mesh design and a cleaner tinted glass panel, each with the same dimensions. This has since evolved into an even cleaner design, with a partial mesh design and illuminated accents, allowing the case to fit in an office without forgoing the gaming look.

Both the newer K500L and K500 have enough room for the latest graphics cards up to 400mm, and up to six 120mm fans. This allows for front and/or rear liquid cooling without compromise on performance of the hardware. This thermal performance is enhanced through Cooler Master’s new single-layer mesh design, which combines the function and form of the previous dual-layer mesh into one.
Keeping to its aesthetic core, both cases come with a black shroud for the power supply unit, a tempered glass panel to showcase hardware and 19mm of space behind the motherboard for added cable management to keep things clean. The main difference, however, is that the K500L is only available with red LEDs and fans, out now for £54.99.
The K500 will be packed with more features than its ‘L' counterpart, supplied with RGB illumination, a controller and RGB-enabled fans. Of course, the K500 will be more expensive, but pricing and release date have yet to be determined.
KitGuru Says: The new designs are worlds apart from their predecessors, suiting 2018’s aesthetic a lot more. I do find it strange that the L-version goes against traditional titling of products in that it houses less features, but that’s by the by.
