Sony drops a story trailer for Insomniac’s Spider-Man game

After stating that E3 was only half the story, Sony had a lot to show today at PlayStation’s Paris Games Week conference. One of which was Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man game, which now has a brand new teaser for the 2018 title.

We saw Insomniac’s Spider-Man showcased back at E3, complete with a near 9-minute gameplay reveal along with some surprise character additions and the relatively new maniacal villain, Mister Negative. The new teaser takes a more cinematic approach, showing the risks and relationships that Spidey has with his fellow cast throughout its 2-minute run.

Peter Parker, desperately trying to get his life back on track after taking down Wilson ‘Kingpin’ Fisk, is seemingly attempting to ditch his life as Spider-Man and go back to the ordinary. Taking charge of Martin Li’s soup kitchen for the homeless, Parker forges a newfound friendship with Miles Morales, who volunteers to help.

Infamous Spidey villain Norman Osborn makes an appearance as Mayor running for re-election, while Mary Jane uncovers ‘Devil’s Breath’, a bioweapon that debuted in 2008’s Brand New Day storyline. Devil’s Breath is utilised by the villainous Mister Negative to attempt to gain control of the criminal underground.

Needless to say, New York City needs Spider-Man more than ever, causing Parker to suit up and get to work. The teaser also showcases a very Mortal Kombat-looking Shocker that blasts Spidey clean through a vault door.

Unfortunately, Insomniac’s Spider-Man still hasn’t received a solid release date, pegged for release next year. The game was originally meant to release in 2017, but received confirmation of its 2018 release window when the E3 trailer debuted. Hopefully this means that we will see the title sooner rather than later.

KitGuru Says: The trailer looks absolutely stunning, with Insomniac Games pushing further into the mature approach without sacrificing Spidey’s wit and humour. What do you think of the latest teaser? Will you be picking up Spider-Man on PS4 next year?
