The Nintendo Switch has managed to surpass half Wii U lifetime sales already

A lot has changed for Nintendo over the last year. During the Summer of 2016, the Wii U was struggling and there were plenty of concerns surrounding the publisher financially. Since then, the Nintendo Switch has launched suddenly, everything is heading back in the right direction. During the first six months, the Nintendo Switch has surpassed half of the Wii U’s lifetime sales and with the holiday season coming up, Nintendo has raised its sales forecast for the year.

The Nintendo Switch has currently sold 7.63 million units during its first six months on sale. By comparison, it took Nintendo five years to sell 13.56 million Wii U consoles. Given how fast the console is selling, Nintendo now expects to sell 14 million Switch units by the end of the financial year. Previously, the company expected to top out at 10 million.

A bevy of highly rated first-party and third-party titles have led to a strong start for the Nintendo Switch. Games like Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild have managed to top charts and support from companies like Bethesda, EA, Ubisoft and even Rockstar will help Nintendo sell even more before the end of the year.

In total, 27.48 million Switch games have been sold. Zelda managed to sell 4.7 million copies, Mario Kart 8 sold 4.42 million and Splatoon 2 managed to sell 3.61 million copies since launch. 1-2 Switch and ARMS sold 1.37 million and 1.35 million copies respectively.

KitGuru says: The Nintendo Switch is certainly doing well for Nintendo. I’m still looking forward to checking out Mario Odyssey and revisiting LA Noire on Switch before the end of the year. Are any of you currently planning on getting a Switch? Do you have one already?
