Asus ROG Maximus X Apex used to hit major overclocks on Core i7-8700K and G.Skill DDR4

Intel’s 8th Gen Coffee Lake processors have launched and the Z370 platform has begun its rollout, which means it is time for overclockers to get their hands on all of this new hardware and push it to its limits. Today, it was announced that overclocker ‘der8auer’ was able to push the Core i7 8700K all the way up to 7.3GHz using the ROG Maximus X Apex motherboard. Meanwhile, overclocker ‘Hocayu’ managed to set a new DDR4 memory record using the board.

For the Core i7-8700K overclock, der8auer used LN2 and was able to get all six cores up to 7.3GHz with Hyper Threading enabled. The overclock was validated with CPU-Z and can be found on HWBot.

Meanwhile, Hocayu managed to set a new DDR4 world record using the ROG Maximus X Apex. Using a G.Skill DDR4-4600 16GB kit, Hocayu pushed frequency all the way up to 5529.2MHz.

Finally, Asus also let the Italian overclocker ‘Rsannino’ have a crack at the 8700K, Maximus X Apex and a GTX 1080Ti. He managed to get the 8700K clocked up to just over 7GHz and paired with the Strix GTX 1080Ti, the system managed to score 73519 marks in 3DMark06.

KitGuru Says: In all, this appears to have been a very impressive showing for the ROG Maximus X Apex in particular. Have many of you been following the Coffee Lake and Z370 coverage over the last few days? Are you impressed so far, or will you be waiting another generation to upgrade?
