Blizzard is ‘hard at work on the future’ of Diablo but don’t expect announcements at BlizzCon

Last year, Diablo fans had a lot to get excited about at BlizzCon. Not only was the original Diablo rebuilt inside Diablo 3, but the game got a new class announced for its roster. This year unfortunately, things are going to be much quieter when it comes to Diablo content.

Over on the Battle.net forums, one of Blizzard's community managers gave Diablo fans the heads-up on what to expect (or not expect in this case) from BlizzCon this year: “We want to give you a heads-up that while Diablo will be on the show floor, we won’t be making any new Diablo announcements. There will be a time for that at some point in the future, but that time is not now”.

“However, in addition to the special BlizzCon Diablo III in-game reward, we’ll also have Diablo panels for attendees and Virtual Ticket holders, and, as always, we look forward to a weekend filled with fun and revelry with the heroes who call Sanctuary home.”

While Diablo won't be a core focus this year, Blizzard is “hard at work on the future” of the franchise. From there, the post adds that the team is still passionate about the game, so with that in mind, hopefully we can expect to hear more next year.

KitGuru Says: Diablo is one of my favourite Blizzard games, so I hope that the developers are working on a new one. We did hear whispers about a second Diablo III quite some time ago but it seems that was canned. Hopefully that means the developers are skipping ahead to a sequel.

  1. Feels like blizz ain’t the same since the Activision takeover.

  2. The headline should be ‘Don’t expect anything from Blizzard since 2007’
