Plants vs Zombies Heroes, is a collectable, lane-based card game

Plants vs Zombies might have begun life as a slightly off-kilter tower defence game when that genre wasn't completely tapped, but since then it's evolved into a lot of other things. From sequels to third person shooters, we're now able to play a brand new Plants vs Zombies experience in Heroes, a free iOS and Android game which turns the universe into a collectable card game.

The game has clearly taken some inspiration from popular card battlers like Hearthstone, offering hero specific decks with different abilities and advantages, health that must be knocked down, minions that can be summoned – zombies or plants, depending on your preference – and various types of cards to collect. However it also borrows from its source material, introducing a lane mechanic for the battlefield itself. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLwRn0oI0C4′]

Thematically the game is set in an arena, with onlooking plants and zombies to impress with your tactical gameplay and strategic planning, though winning over the crowd doesn't seem to be part of actual gameplay.

You can summon super characters/weapons though. That's likely to please just about anyone watching.

Plants vs Zombies: Heroes is a free to play game, so has the lowest barrier of entry of any PvZ game yet and has plenty of single player content (400 levels, according to Kotaku) as well as an online multiplayer mode where you can take on real people in a battle for the greatest plant/undead champion around.

  1. The question is, how much does this free to play game cost? PvZ 2 is also free to play, and KitGuru posted an article about the high cost of in app purchases.
