Arktika.1 is an FPS built from the ground up for Oculus Touch

Oculus has had a difficult six months, with us and just about everyone else claiming that the HTC Vive is the superior headset to its Rift, but that may be harder to justify when Touch controllers arrive. Especially since some of the games that have been built for it from the ground up, look particularly good.

One great example is Arktika.1, a first person shooter built with Touch in mind. Developed by 4A games, the team behind the Metro series, Arktika is a frantic, sci-fi shooter with solid tracking and feedback, making for a fun and realistic FPS (as per RoadtoVR). The overall experience is said to be incredibly polished, potentially making Arktika.1 a must-have VR title. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-rQzgWNgjc']

The above footage has no in-game audio since it was recorded off screen, but does show the kind of interaction players can expect in the final game. Perhaps most impressive was that Arktriska didn't appear to be entirely forward facing, suggesting some measure of roomscale support – though it's not clear what sort of tracking set up it might require for that.

When the game is released at some point in 2017, it will offer what we're told is extended campaign gameplay, as well as a whole host of enemies to shoot and a variety of weapons to do it with. While likely to release initially only on the Oculus Rift, we'd expect it to appear on the Vive soon after, at the very least in an unofficial, modded form.

KitGuru Says: I've taken a step back from a lot of VR games lately – thanks Kerbal Space Program – but I'm getting the itch to jump back in again. There's a lot of fun content arriving in the next couple of months that I'll definitely be checking out.

  1. I’ve been saying the whole time that determining the Vive is better than Rift is premature. People are so impatient and to into the ‘now’. Just be patient and wait til the touch comes out. If it sucks, THEN people can make an informed decision. PSVR is out now too. Vive was so ‘awesome because it is the only thing, that doesn’t mean it’s actually the best thing for VR. Even with Touch coming out and PSVR out now, we still have a long way to go. Who knows, maybe the next Vive Controllers might be pretty awesome compared to those clunky fat wands. Remember the fist Xbox had silly fat controllers?
