Recently Microsoft decided to bring its Sci-Fi action game ‘Quantum Break' to Steam. Previously this game was exclusive to the Windows 10 Store, so the move brought new hope that future exclusives may also come to Steam, even if it is a few months after launch. However, it looks like things won't be that simple, as Microsoft will only be bringing its published games to Steam “where it makes sense”.
Speaking in an interview with DualShockers recently, Xbox's Aaron Greenberg explained that Microsoft already has games on Steam and won't be completely turning away from the platform: “Well, from a first-party standpoint, over the years, we've always had titles in the Steam store, from Age of Empires, to Alan Wake, to even more recently we had titles like Ori and State of Decay”.
Unfortunately, this was followed up by “we'll continue to look where it makes sense to bring out titles to Steam”, which is a bit of a confusing statement, because Steam has all sorts of games on its store, from awful Early Access titles to the best that the PC has to offer.
Greenberg didn't go into what Microsoft considers when deciding to bring a game to Steam, so we don't really have any answers. Either way though, Quantum Break is coming to Steam and chances are, Microsoft is going to be paying attention to the sales numbers in comparison to the Windows 10 Store so perhaps that will come into play when it comes to future decisions.

KitGuru Says: Less people would have an issue with the Windows 10 Store if it wasn't like a mobile app store. Perhaps Microsoft should revamp and tie its PC game store into the Xbox app or something but even then, you will always get the people that refuse to buy anything that isn't on Steam.
Bring all games to Steam, that makes the most sense.
I am getting paid close to $6k-$8k on monthly basis working from home online. If you are prepared to work basic freelance jobs for several hours a day from your living room and get valuable payment while doing it… This is perfect for you… UR1.CA/pm79v

These guys flip flop on what they say more then Donald Trump.
I do not care if there games never make it, they don’t interest me.
These stunning steam sandbox games like empyrion get all my time and attention. They are fun and different and do so much!
Games like Quantum break are just like renting a movie… You watch more then you play in AAA games these days, and are stuck on linear paths with little to do. Sure they are fun for 1 playthrough, sorta… maybe… not always…
Everyone please buy empyrion
please buy 7 days to die
please buy zomboid
please I beg you, please buy subnautica
buy don’t starve
buy the long dark
People please support devs who do something different, who make deep sandboxes!
I lost my capitol ship in Empyrion… a bug ate it… it was very hard to restore by digging in files and replacing certain files…. Depsite such a horrible bug as the game is in alpha, I am still in love with the game and will play that over ANYTHING microsoft has ever made… I DO NOT CARE ABOUT HALO and it’s linear boring as crap gameplay.
Bah, I can’t take it, I’m out… I am PC MASTER RACE NERD RAGING and I don’t care who knows it! =D Back to empyrion I go, I got more promethium to mine! So much better then No Man’s Sky it’s not even funny or fair… it’s like punching kittens or something.
You got other game choices to go back to (Freelancer) or to invest in – Star Citizen. Of course if you like Sci-fi space sims…
All the games you listed are great. But there are not many of them… Whatever MS does i will not buy any of their games if they are not up to AAA standard. No Man’s Sky is a big fail that should be forgotten and taken off the market, as devs celebrated for “finishing” it (or rather rushing it id say) after 4 years of development…total junkcrap…
Have fun!
Glorious PC Master Race
“May your framerate be high, and temperatures low”
Everyone’s trying to carve out their own slice of the pie in the digital distribution market. Whilst Steam is the incumbent, many AAA makers now have their own stores, which dilutes the amount of titles coming to Steam. Valve really needs to make an acquisition in order to bolster the amount of titles, or else it starts to die a long slow death.
No, they have some games that need to be Store based, such as Age of Empires: Castle Siege. Or their solitaire game. No point releasing that on Steam.
Microsoft store can never beat Steam deals. And steam deals make gamers happy

Thank you comrade of our great master race.
Sadly my temps are high and my frame rate low, and has been for years… but very soon here this might change!
As to the games not being very many, I was just quickly putting out a list or recent ones I been into. There is many other great ones I was forgetting. Stuff like ye olde X-Com, but even some great non sandbox games the PC has seen like SYSTEM SHOCK 2.
Truly the deep and vast history of our massive backlog of games on PC are incredible. So many treasures. Dungeon keeper anyone?
I am always discovering new amazing games to play, or re-remembering ancient awesome games I used to play back in the days of 56k dialup. Ahhh, the good ole days…
yeah Dungeon keeper was a fun one, indeed. Actually to tell you the truth many more sandbox games are actually on their way…Watch TheLazyPeon on YouTube, he showed some.
Now, the rule of thumb for you – don’t use stock coolers that come with your CPU…if of course it is the CPU u are talking about. There are many good ones out there. Really bro, watch your temps. They are kind of an important thing to as all…
And also to remind ya, it seems Sony wants to take our money with their streaming service for console “exclusives”, PS Now. You know the answer to that is – “NO thank you”.
Anyway, have fun 🙂
