We may have our first look at GTX 1070 benchmark numbers

While we have already seen exactly what the GTX 1080 graphics card can do, Nvidia also has the GTX 1070 on the way next month and so far, we haven't seen much of it. However, this week, some benchmark numbers appear to have leaked on to the web, showing a GTX 1070 performing a tad higher than a GTX 980Ti and Titan X.

We won't be seeing the GTX 1070 launch until the 10th of June but Videocardz has obtained some leaked benchmark runs from 3D Mark Firestrike on the Performance, Extreme and Ultra modes. While this is unofficial information, it may be our first look at what to expect from Nvidia's second-tier Pascal card.

FireStrike Performance is rendered at 1280×720, the GTX 1070 reportedly garnered up a graphics score of 17,557. Meanwhile, In Firestrike Extreme, which is rendered at 2560×1440, the GTX 1070 got a graphics score of 8327. Finally in FireStrike Ultra, which is rendered at Ultra HD/4K resolution, the GTX 1070 reportedly scored 4078 points in the graphics test.

These numbers were around five percent higher than what was being reported on the GTX 980Ti but given that this is unofficial information, take it with a pinch of salt. We will see exactly what the GTX 1070 is capable of in a couple of weeks time when it launches.

KitGuru Says: While there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the GTX 1080, not a lot of people can afford to spend over £600 on a graphics card, so many will be looking forward to the 1070 instead. If these scores are accurate, then we may be getting a card that performs at 980Ti levels for a much lower price. Are any of you planning on picking up a new graphics card next month? Are you planning on going with a Pascal card? Or are you waiting to see what AMD can pull off with Polaris?

    I upgraded my system recently,i5 6600k/16 gig ddr4 & was saving up for a 970, I’m using a very old Gtx 460!
But then I saw the new 1080 & 1070! Can’t wait to fit a new 1070 in my system.

  2. good choice

  3. yea was hoping the gtx 1070 would pan out if these numbers are what we are to expect from it then I may just have to scoop up a pair of them. I already seen the price for the founders edition here in Canada & they are going for or pre order right now for $909 CAD for the gtx 1080’s

really? which online store they’re giving pre order?

  5. Hmmmm. The gap between 1080 and 1070 is larger then between 980 and 970 if we look at the specs. I’ll wait untill the official reviews to make any assumptions. But i still like the card. Also, to me Polaris looks good. Can’t wait to make a jump from a R9 270X

  6. Good thing you didn’t drop the money on a 970. But I would suggest you wait for Polaris 10 and see which one is the better buy.

  7. I’ve heard estimates passing 500 euro’s, which is a lot of money but still a lot less than the 980ti. So that would be a fair price I guess.

  8. Same here: upgraded to z170, i5-6600k, 8gb ddr4, recently – but was saving for R9 nano. The gtx1070 is tempting me away from team red, but i may as well now hang on a little longer for polaris 10. Vega I suspect will be too much money at first, for the low amount I game, whether it’s super fast or not so.

  9. good choice hmm I really want to say goodbye to my system amd athlon ii x2 250 ,6 gb ram,gtx 750ti can’t wait to upgrade my system but I guess I still have to wait for 5 more months haha I’m planning to build one like yours or just wait for Zen

get a 1070 or 1080 and deal with Nv usual antics, now, its them cranking the clock speeds as high as they will go(along with boost) so thermals are harder to deal with and of course this means throttling, great idea pay top dollar for a new card that is running at red line to point where drawing more power then should, pushing far more heat then should, and likely will die sooner.

I will stick with Radeon, least I know it will work for many years to come without constant return back to vendor for a replacement card, and, not pay out the nose for something that is just heavily overclocked to make it “appear” better then previous gen products.

  11. AMD’s Polaris is shooting for the R9 380 market segment. It will be eaten alive by Pascal.

I tried to give AMD a chance with the 390 only to be disappointed. The card was running at a scorching 90 degrees on the stock fan curve. I shouldn’t have to raise the fan to be as loud as a leaf blower to enjoy gaming. Then there was the horrible driver support. GTAV always defaulted to 30 fps. Sure it could be changed but what a fricking hassle. Then there’s the gps map that didn’t work unless you turned up anti aliasing. However that kills performance. Next the constant reboots. I have a 850 watt gold psu from a quality manufacturer so it wouldn’t be that. While gaming my computer would reboot out of nowhere. All drivers are up to date. To test I removed the 390 along with the drivers and installed my older 960 along with its drivers and experienced nothing but smooth gaming.

I thought about giving AMD another shot since my previous ATI cards burned themselves to death. I got tired of their crappy drivers, running hot and constantly rebooting. I thought AMD got better. Sadly they haven’t.
