Amazon is now cracking down on dodgy USB Type-C cables

Throughout 2015 and going on into this year, a Google engineer set out on a mission to save us all from dodgy, non-compliant USB Type-C cables that were being sold on Amazon. He tested so many poor cables that didn't meet the proper Type-C specifications that eventually, he ended up with one that broke his laptop entirely. Clearly this is an issue and now, Amazon is cracking down on it.

A cheap USB Type-C cable that does not comply with the standard specification can fry a smartphone or even a laptop so now, Amazon is prohibiting these from sale entirely.

In an update to its policy, Amazon wrote that it will not permit the sale of “any USB-C (or USB Type-C) cable or adapter product that is not compliant with standard specifications”.

The big issue with these Type-C cables is that they often feature one USB Type-A side and if this is not built to handle the three amps that Type-C can deliver, then it spells bad news and causes power problems. Hopefully poor quality cables will now be less of an issue on Amazon going forward.

KitGuru Says: Considering just how many companies weren't complying with proper USB Type-C specifications, this is a good move from Amazon and could save a lot of people from accidentally damaging their electronics.

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.
