With giants like Samsung and Apple continuing to dominate the market for years on end it can be easier to forget about the less successful mobile makers, like Sony. Sony has consistently produced highly-rated devices in its Xperia Z series but unfortunately, it hasn't quite caught on in the way that the company had hoped and now, it looks like we might not be getting an Xperia Z6.
Speaking with uSwitch, Jun Makino a Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sony Mobile said: “I can't comment on the future, but we will not be releasing a Z6”.
While the Z-series might be taking a back seat going forward, Sony hasn't given up on smartphones just yet as this week at the Mobile World Congress the company announced its new Xperia X series. This means that rather than releasing an Xperia Z flagship device this year, Sony's 2016 flagship device will be the Xperia X Performance, featuring a Snapdragon 820 processor.
KitGuru Says: I know quite a few of our readers have used Sony's Xperia Z-series smartphones before. Are you glad to see Sony go in a new direction with the Xperia X? Would you rather see them release an Xperia Z6?
I had the Z3+ and I really liked it. I had to take it back though as it was overheating when using the camera features; taking pics or vids was too much for it and it kept shutting down.
Had about 10 high-end smartphones this last 3 years and never owned a Sony. Says it all really…

The sony Xperia Compact was the best line, they should definitely keep that! no other [hone has the same small screen and amazing features 😮
Had Z2 and recently upgraded to Z5 premium. Out of all the phones apple and Samsung I’ve owned the Xperia Z range where my favourite, it’s sad to think it may be my last.
I dont really care what the phone is called as long as its the newest hardware inside it when I need to upgrade. I got the Z2 atm and I was hoping to get a Z7 by the time I feel ready upgrade. I have had no real problem with my phone except from about 5 times my phone have told me its overheating when I was getting a phone call ot trying to make one, strange thing since the phone wasnt in use before it on 3 of the occasions and it felt cold to the touch… Strange. Anyway except from that I find Sony to be good phones, Im not a bih fan of Samsung but it might ve where I havr to go next time sadly.
Got a Z1 – there really hasn’t been that much between the Z-series models, a feature here and there, a bit faster CPU etc., so unless something big comes along, another step in the series wouldn’t be worthwhile compared to the previous model
