Ubisoft to crack down on cheats in The Division

The Division beta kicked off over the weekend and in that time, the development team managed to gain some pretty good feedback. However, quite a few cheats in the PC version were also uncovered during the weekend-long test and while it was frustrating for players to deal with at the time, Ubisoft has said that this will help the team handle the situation better going forward.

The Division is an online-only game with a PvP mode called ‘The Dark Zone', so having a decent anti-cheat system set up will be imperative for the game. In a post on the closed beta forum, Ubisoft said: “We are aware of the cheating issues in the Closed Beta on PC. The team is fully committed to providing solutions against this and a system will be in place to ensure a fair experience for players when the game is released on March 8.”

We may see some of these improvements pop up in the rumoured open beta, which would take place in a few weeks time ahead of the game's official launch on the 8th of March.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft needs to ensure that a decent anti-cheat system is in place for The Division, especially in a PvP mode like The Dark Zone. Cheaters could very easily cost honest players some decent loot. I actually got to spend some time in The Division beta over the weekend and ended up really enjoying it, though I didn't run in to any cheaters. Did any of you have issues with cheaters during The Division beta? Did you give the game a try?

  1. I may have run into one guy who appeared to be invincible over the weekend, funnily enough I never ran into another player who had the same level as me in the Dark Zone so maybe I was just lucky enough to play with people who don’t cheat.

  2. The jump roll function makes melee attacks useless…

  3. Melee is only good for finishing downed enemies. I have always used it to finish downed enemies so assumed it was super strong. Snuck up behind a rogue player, melee’d him and his healthy barely went down. LOL. Not sure why it instantly kills a downed enemy but only does like 100 damage to a standing enemy.

tbh I freaking loved the division but I did see people mention that there were already cheaters hopping around and Ubisoft are going to have to take that very seriously if they want this game to follow through.
From my own experiences the biggest issue I had (probably due to my shitty internet and, of course, the stress testing) was that damage is entirely server-side so sometimes I would be shooting an AI/player and having to wait a good couple of seconds for a big wave of damage to hit with the same seemingly happening against me where it would look like I just died in one hit so I worry that people could take advantage of this somehow with lag switches

  5. Racked up 20hours in the beta, and only came across two forms of cheating:

    1) Invisible players (common) – however, this was not a hack/cheat, but was caused by a bug when leaving the ‘Safe Room’, so most people didnt even know they were invisible to anyone else. Happened to me and others in my group several times, but without other people to tell you, you didnt know if it happened to you.

    2) Players shooting through solid cover (rare) – hard to say whether this was down to hacking, or bugs within the server / bad net code, but was definitely happening

My group and I never came across a single player using hacks like ‘invincibility’ or ‘no reload’.

  6. I played a lot of the beta as well and was shown a bug that would cause your character to ‘fly’. You could then use objects to climb even higher, allowing you to move over the top of the dark zone fence without penalty, unless you were carrying biohazard items. It also allowed you to shoot at players within the dark zone from outside. I then spent the rest of beta pointing out the bug and showing how to engage it so that it not only became common knowledge, but that lots of people reported it as well.

Basically, behind the construction area pickup zone, there was a rope to climb up to the top of a building overlooking the pickup area. On the other side was a rope leading down into the ‘red zone’. If you let the timer go down to .5 seconds and grabbed the rope, it would teleport you into the safe room, but anytime you went upward, it would not allow you to go back down, which basically let you fly.
