Right now, the rumour going around that Apple has decided to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 is picking up a lot of steam. While nothing has been confirmed, anonymous ‘supply chain' sources have claimed that in an effort to make the iPhone 7 even thinner, the headphone jack will be going away and it turns out that a lot of people don't want that to happen.
At the time of writing, 227,839 people have signed a petition to try and get Apple to change its mind about ditching the headphone jack though it might be too late at this point.
However, despite news that Apple could ditch the headphone jack, we have also heard reports that Apple intends to create Wireless Ear Pods, as well as headphones that connect via the lightning port. Neither option is ideal, as using the lightning port for headphones will stop you from charging the device, while using Wireless Ear Pods will stop you from listening to music in Airplane mode.
Apple hasn't confirmed anything about the iPhone 7 yet and has not spoken out about the petition going around.
KitGuru Says: While I do think it would be a bit silly for Apple to remove the headphone jack, I do have my doubts on whether this petition would make a difference, especially at this point with supply chains gearing up for production. I wish all phone manufacturers would stop the epeen wars, Seriously what’s with this “thinner” phones ffs.
Enough is enough, They are making thinner phones which are already thin enough. And because the phones are getting thinner they have the same or smaller battery capacity, How about giving us phones that last a few days of constant use without charging it.
this move would have nothing to do with making a thinner phone and everything to do with making you buy more of their crap.
sign petition? how about you just send a message to apple with ignoring the new iphone (if they in fact, remove the jack) and get something else?
Nothing hurts like that and almost always deliver the message.
I agree with apple that the headphone jack is a bit large. It’s the largest input on the phone as of now. Personally I’m all for improving technology and making things smaller. But the problem here is, that nearly everyone uses headphones, ear plugs and what not, directly dependant on a 3.5mm jack.
Solely because of that, it’s a bad idea for apple to remove it. Making a wireless ear plug and including that with the phone does make some things right, but I for example got very expensive headphones still relying on that 3.5mm jack plug. So what I would do if I were apple is providing some kind of usb C to jack plug converter so that it’s actually possible for everyone to use their own favorable headphones/earplugs.
Okay Apple users just jump the ship and go to Android. With Android you can upgrade the storage yourself for cheap and using any headset you want.
Apple will do what it wants. There was a massive outcry when Samsung was talking about no longer having a removable battery and no SD slot in the Note and S series yet what did they do? They did what they wanted anyway. This situation is no different and what will Apple people do? But it like hotcakes just because it’s Apple.

why do they dont use 2.5 jack like in nokia eseries like e71 it has a 2.5 headphone jack instead of removing it
Get with the times folks. If this were 2006 and you heard a rumor about a smartphone WITHOUT a keyboard, half of you Luddites would be signing petitions and asking how on Earth a person can use a phone without a physical keyboard. Wireless is inevitable.

I can use Bluetooth in airplane mode on Android, cant u do that on apple products?
Also why dont they just add two lightning ports they not that big and they have the space where the headphone jack was before..?
Remember that with the current state of buy buy buy society we live in manufacturers have no intention of making your phone last longer, a bigger battery lasts longer and will not be going through a full charge and discharge cycle, they will in most cases manage to stay within the golden 80-30% charge that keeps the phone with a strong battery for many a years. Where with the current smaller and smaller batteries they using now they manage to go from 100-20/10% and that damages the battery in the long run and means u end up buying a new phone earlier…
Also 200,000 people are nothing to the 4 million people that bought the new 6 on the first day and will more then likely pick up the 7 when that arrives so I don’t think they worried about a few not being happy.
I never bought Apple and this is why I no longer buy Samsung. The S5 was my last galaxy.
This is about image. The look of the jack is inconvenient and it is oversized. They want to be all futuretech and for people to us wireless. Like the futuristic robots in wall-e that appear seemless, smooth, a single shell, etc. Wires are ugly. They could compromise and figure out how to do a flap for the port or something. Alternatively use a smaller port from another standard and include an adapter. Whether the jack is in line with their image of their fashion accessory or not people at least want their fashion accessory to work with the vast array of headphones out there.
My Note 3 was likely my last Samsung unless they go back to removable batteries and SD cards. I went with an LG V10 and couldn’t be happier.
