Rainbow Six Siege patch to bring server and hit detection improvements

Rainbow Six: Siege is out and many people are actually quite impressed with it. However, the game does have its issues, mainly poor hit detection and networking errors. Fortunately, Ubisoft is working on these things and Patch 1.2 is set to hit this week.

Matchmaking errors seem to be affecting all platforms, though, from my own personal experience, the situation appears to be worse on the Xbox One compared to the PC.

The patch notes include improvements like an updated server tick rate for all PC users though this will arrive later on consoles. Additionally, you can now select a preferred data center on the PC, this feature isn't coming to consoles for the time being, though. Finally on the matchmaking side, the system will now pair people using the same data center to ensure better ping for everyone.

Aside from that, there are various bug and UI fixes to be found across all three platforms. You can find the full patch notes, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Rainbow Six Siege is a really fun game, especially if you can get a good group together. However, it does suffer from some pretty bad connection issues right now- more so on Xbox One from my experience. Hopefully, this can all be fixed after this patch.

  1. The patch is already live?

  2. Went live yesterday at 10am EST if I’m not mistaken.

    edit: On PC that is.

  4. Patch has done fuck all to fix the servers. Yes, the matchmaking has been improved (not fixed), but the server pings are still awful. The fact that Ubisoft can’t even make a 5 vs 5 match run smoothly and claim complexity when Battlefield has been doing games over three times the size for years show how technically incompetent the devs are.

Don’t expect fixes any time soon: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1365707-Don-t-expect-any-fixes-any-time-soon?p=11268809#post11268809

  5. Really? We haven’t had a ping problem at all in Casual. everyone is always under 80ms. And they are working on things. If you would have read the patch notes they state that this patch wasn’t going to fix the networking issues but the next patch in 2 weeks should improve things a lot more. That being said, tickrate was upped. And my friends and I, (14+ players), haven’t had any ping issues on PC. And btw BF has sucked balls since BF3…. BF2 and earlier were great though. Claiming BF is smooth and great is the biggest bunch of bullshit I’ve ever heard from someone. Did you not play BF4 at release? It was one of the worst releases to date. So give these guys a chance before bashing. They are working on things. Your post shows how much you know…..

Edit: Maybe you’re connecting to the wrong datacenter? You can change that if so.

  6. Unfortunately there isn’t a way of changing your data centre or even view it now. Thing is, ping should be below 50, and the lowest it gets for me is 65, whereas the rest of the team are generally in triple digits. For a game that is based on accuracy, these pings are over double what they should be.

They don’t actually mention anywhere in the problem list latency when it is clearly a massive problem. Try reading before jumping to assumptions. Also you should be asking why on earth are ubisoft having to fix something which games have been doing successfully for over a decade?! It shows absolute incompetence. more so when you realise its a MP only game.

  7. Actually there is a way to change your datacenter. Go read the patch notes and links I posted.

And I can view mine anytime I hit f10 in game…..So can anyone else.

  10. Well I’m connected to the right data centre and the pings are still awful.

I’m on a 150 Mbps connection. The base ping to the WEU server is 30ms. Lowest I can get my ping is 65 which is double what it should be for a good online experience. Most people are 80+. I know how latency works, I’m not asking or looking for a lesson in it. As for everyone with a ping under 50, it is possible if Ubisoft invested in more servers, or allowed for private servers. Many games achieve it, but you can’t have a game based on accuracy and timing at the mercy of low server distribution.

The game clearly shows the people in charge of making it have no idea what the game is – is it a run and gun experience like CoD where ping doesn’t matter, or is it about timing and accuracy like CS where pings massively matter? Gameplay suggest the latter but the shit data centres suggest the former.

  11. Yep…. 65ms Ping. That’s terrible. Seems like you know enough that I can’t say anything else to help you out. Because clearly, no one else has any idea of what they are doing or talking about. Right? btw bandwidth and latency are different. 😉

  12. Clearly you want to try and flex your knowledge here, but seem oblivious to what a good ping is – in the FPS community a ping of under 30 is what is considered ideal, showing that in a best case scenario, R6 is over double the ideal latency, and closer to x4’s it in most players experience. And as much as you want to try and argue otherwise, it’s obvious that the issue here is on Ubisofts side.
Also as an FYI, the higher bandwidth internet packages have the lowest latencies. So again, it’s clear as day that Ubisoft have messed up considerably.

  13. I’ve been playing comp FPS since the 90’s… If you can’t play a game because 65ms ping is too much, then you need to find a different game type to play. 30-65 ms ping will not show you much difference in a game with decent netcode. The lowest possible ping is “ideal” no matter what, this is why competitions generally take place in a lan setting. But you’re not going to notice much difference in an online setting between 30-65ms ping, sorry to burst your bubble here, but you’re not.
You going on about “most players experience” is daft. I play this game daily with various people. I play with roughly 21 other players regularly. These people are located all over the continental US and we will rarely ever see anyone over 100ms ping in game. True the pings aren’t ideal but they normally stay below 85ms which is very playable. One normally doesn’t start seeing issues from ping unless their ping is over 100, usually around the 120ms mark.

Yes, generally speaking, a higher bandwidth will have lower latency. However, that latency difference isn’t much at all. You sound relatively new to all this, so I’ll stop here. I actually shouldn’t have said anything at all after reading that CoD/CS comment you made above. Tell-tale sign of what I was getting into. You’re a very salty individual it seems and no matter what someone tells you, you’ll just find an excuse or something to rebuttal with. Like when you told me there was no way of viewing your datacenter or changing it. (which is something I still suggest you do as it may actually help you out some). Haters are gonna hate, right? Anyways, I’m done pointing out the obvious. Go figure it out for yourself.

Edit: just went and read posts of yours in other threads. Seems you’re always talking down to people like you know more than them. Grow up dude.

Have a good day Sir. I hope your ping clears up some.

  14. Your reflexes have slown down in your old age, and your expectations haven’t increased with what ISPs can provide. How can you argue you know about latency and then go to say 30-65ms isn’t noticeable when you’ve gone and just doubled it?! And having played FPS’ for over a decade, I can safely say the difference is noticeable. More so, R6:S has, by UbiSoft’s admittance, bad netcode which, going on what you just said, means any increase in latency is incredibly noticeable! Next time don’t try to lecture someone and end up losing sight of what you’re discussing.
I can provide you with hundreds of screenshots of God awful pings if you want showing that this isn’t an isolated incident. Also it’s clear that you are merely trying to defend you purchase than actually talk about the state of the game as you forgot the netcode is broken and admit the pings aren’t ideal. Therefore what on earth is your point? There are obviously massive problems with the game and you just seem hellbent on assigning blame to me having the wrong data centre (it’s the right one) and being too picky with pings, when in fact all competitive FPS communities will expect a ping of 30 or lower. You’re on your own thinking that higher is acceptable.
Buddy, I’m criticising a game which has been poorly made and has significant problems. You’re the one who is attempting to take the technical high ground in an attempt to blindly defend your purchase. Pretty sure I’m not the one who needs to grow up…

  15. You can’t argue with those who don’t compete in the professional gaming scene or even keep up with the latest documented research articles covering latency and the affects of poor net code.

I’ve been playing Siege aggressively since beta… while it is slightly better. most of my games run from 68ping to 120ping. The latency above what I consider ideal 32ms and less is absolutely awful. Let alone people who are immortal because of desync I had one match where I put 3 full magazines into a guy before he finally died witnessed by my entire team as I clutched the game in a 1v4 bout.. The last guy didn’t even know where I was shooting him from. It’s been frustrating to say the least when I put half a clip into someone and they’re fine and dandy at full health. This is coming from someone who has had ranked 1st in a regional competition in NY for FPS games during a two week bracket competition.

I’ve avoided ranked games so far due to the number cheaters and poor netcoding since it will only make me look worse than I am. Unfortunately, you can’t dispute your KDR from each match or accuracy for a correction with video proof of game glitches or issues.

  16. Heh…. That’s not exactly what I said. But hey man, whatever. It’s pointless saying anything to you. You’ll just start throwing more attacks my way if I do. Sorry you completely missed the point.

  17. So many assumptions…
I hope to see you in a few competitions. I’ve been playing competitively for many years now. My group and I have always placed very well. So if you’re good enough to place 1st in a regional (not sure what game you’re talking about though), then perhaps I shall see you around since I’m also in NA.

As far as what I was saying to the other guy. I started out just trying to give him some help on his ping issue with the datacenter change. If you’d have read the previous posts maybe you would have seen that. I was told it was impossible to change or even see, even though that’s not true at all. I pointed it out and was attacked again from a different angle the next time. I stand firm in what I said. Netcode is a blanket term. If you’re so knowledgeable you should know this. If anything the absurd Tickrate this game has had is one of the most damning things. The ping is not Ideal, but it’s definitely playable at 65ms. I never said there was no difference in 30 to 65 ms ping like the guy above stated. Those documented research articles should tell you pretty much the exact same thing I said. You have to take into account all the other variables when talking “netcode” such as packet loss and all the various other pieces where problems can arise. It’s not because you have a 65ms ping instead of a 30ms ping. Having an optimal ping is the way to go for sure, I never disputed that. And it’s why I stated in my post above that this is the reason a lot of competitions take place in a LAN setting. Which I’m sure you can agree on and know since you are in the Professional Gaming Scene. So I’m not certain where you are coming from by what you said in your first paragraph.

On another note. I’ve also avoided ranked games, since going Gold II and finding too much of what you stated. They are supposed to be updating the anti-cheat system tomorrow on PC. So we will see how it goes.

  18. For starters, the netcode I’m referring to is how they handle each packet of data they’re requesting. Tick rate is only a small portion of their entire netcode. The way they handle movement prediction based on past 10 tick rates ruins quick lean checking. I can pop my head into a hallway for a fraction of a second then move quickly away and still be killed in an unreasonable fashion all because your hit box is in a magical place beyond where you dared even venture.

Replay cameras don’t even properly show you what happened since most of the time your opponents aren’t even looking at you when shooting. They don’t even account for half of the movements that were made most of the time, such as sprinting for a couple feet or even your proper rappel direction, which can lead to some very hackusational outcomes.

The netcode is unable to handle client side hit detection, for obvious reason as people could just cheat and use OPK(one place kills). However, there should not be such a desync that I could just unload into a stationary person several time and they come out unscathed. Something their system handles poorly is people who have high ping. There are cases where I’ve been team killed when I never even appeared on the replay cam or in the vicinity of my teammate. It’s painful to deal with.

As far as competitive, this goes roughly back 10 years at a face to face UT2004 tournament. No teams just singles matches, back when the scene was still kicking off. I haven’t competed in those types of events due to school and work, part of me wishes I had since it pays very handsomely these days, but parents would have never allowed it “It’s not a real sport stigma”. As far as things go today, I do not have teammates good enough to play in a team with me, even if I wanted to compete. I have a few friends, but they’re mostly a little above average in the FPS world. In one vs. ones they don’t even come close to my skills aside from my best friend who can best me about 15%-20% of the time in most games.

WhoIsThatPkm is my ubisoft name, if you want to prove your rank and abilities. I’m not afraid to show what I’m capable of if you want to squad up. I should easily be able to obtain Plat rank even with their broken crap.

  19. What “point”? I showed how your argument is full of contradictions and Zac has shown that you are on your own thinking a ping of over 30ms is acceptable, but surprise, surprise, you ignore that and instead make ambiguous, hollow statements. Again, I’m quite sure it is you who has missed the point.

  20. rubber band and lag advantage on high ping player getting worse so far. patch not fixed anything about that at all.
