iOS 9 will roll out next week

Apple's annual September event took place yesterday, at which we saw the new iPhones, a new Apple TV and the new iPad Pro and iPad Mini. Along with these new devices, Apple users will be getting a software upgrade, with iOS 9 set to roll out next week on the 16th of September.

Apple will also be rolling out its new Watch OS that day too. Tim Cook announced the launch date for the next version of iOS last night, bringing new features, including better battery life, better security, reduced file sizes to make upgrading easier for those with 16GB iPhones and a big upgrade to Siri.

iPads are also going to get a bit more useful for productivity as iOS 9 is going to incorporate multi-tasking, allowing users to display two apps on screen at once. This feature in particular is one of the big marketing points for the new iPad Pro, which Apple is hoping to push for business use in order to compete with the Microsoft Surface.

If you don't feel like waiting until next week for iOS 9, Apple is running an open beta for the software, so you could sign up and get an early version of the update but do expect bugs and issues.

KitGuru Says: With iOS 9, those with low storage iPhones won't have to fiddle around deleting apps themselves to make room. Instead, apps will automatically be deleted and reinstalled during the upgrade process. Did any of you keep up with the Apple news last night? Anybody upgrading? I'm thinking of maybe picking up an iPad Air at some point this year myself.
