Someone is trying to pre-order Fallout 4 with thousands of bottle caps

A fan of the Fallout series is currently attempting to get Bethesda to accept his collection of bottle caps as payment for a pre-order of Fallout 4. Right now, Seth (or GatorMacheteJr on Imgur), has a box of over 2000 bottle caps waiting to be sent over to Bethesda in exchange for a copy of Fallout 4.

If you don't happen to know anything about the Fallout series, bottle caps is the currency used in the wasteland following the nuclear war. Writing on his Imgur gallery, the fan said: “Fallout 3 was my favourite game for several years, so I made the rational choice to start saving up bottle caps. Turns out 4.5 years of undergrad and 3 years in a Master's program leads to a lot of drinking. It ended up being 11.2 pounds of bottle caps. You don't want to know how much it cost to ship it to Maryland.”

He also posted a note addressed to Bethesda, noting his interest in pre-ordering Fallout 4 but not knowing the price in bottle caps versus pre-war dollars. Apparently these bottle caps have been accumulated over several years so this has been planned out for some time.

Summing up his Imgur post, he wrote that he is hoping that his pre-order attempt will get popular enough to grab the attention of Bethesda's PR team. You can find the whole thing, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Well this was bound to happen, after all, Fallout does have some pretty dedicated fans. I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda went ahead and sent him a copy of the game after this.

  1. I really hope Bethesda accepts. That’s pretty clever.

  2. That’s a dangerous precedent if Bethesda accepts. Copycats will follow.

  3. I would’nt only be not surprised if that got him a pre-order, i wouldnt even be surprised if we would find a skeleton slumped over a pc in game, with a box with 2240 caps next to it :p

Exactly what I was thinking… presumably their PR team is currently saying “Awww… that’s neat, but no. Or else we will be inundated with sacks of bottle caps until Fallout 5”.

  5. I thought it was ring pulls ?

  6. Dunno about Bethesda, but he is certainly a fan of carbonated drinks. Maybe he needs to ask Coke for some freebies instead.

The price of shipping 11.2 pounds of bottle caps to Maryland might be as expensive as buying the game, so I’ll rank this chap as a true believer. 🙂

  9. Frankly, I think it would be good PR stuff to accept. Of course, even doing that they are not obliged to accept other requests.
There were lots of silly/moving acts like that for other games or franchise.

  10. I agree, it could be a very good PR move to accept the bottle caps. They would have to explicitly say that no other orders made with bottle caps would be accepted. Even so, people would still send in their bottle caps. I bet they’ve already been receiving bottle caps for years and years now and have kept quiet about it, so they don’t get more.
