Free iPad for woman – Apple damage control

You would think that walking into an Apple store with a wad of cash would be enough to get you a shiny new iPad, however a woman was recently refused a purchase, even though they were in stock. When this was made public via a news network, Apple dramatically not only made a 180 change in policy but gave her one, absolutely free.

According to a San Francisco news report Diane Campbell was surviving on a fixed income and had saved enough money to buy an iPad from an Apple Store in San Francisco. When she tried to buy one with cash however she was refused due to an Apple policy designed to make sure that the hotly in demand hardware is evenly distributed amongst the buying public. This was put in place by Apple some time ago to ensure that only two iPads could be bought from each member of the public.

“Mr. Jobs, give a sister a break, OK?” she told the KGO-TV San Francisco news station. “I'm not going to go sell my iPad.”

In a very public change of heart, Ron Johnson, Apple's senior vice president of retail spoke to the news station to reveal that Apple would no longer maintain the credit only policy.
