Barnes and Noble to launch new Nook Color Tablet

One of Amazon's biggest rivals in the E-Reader sector are Barnes and Noble and the latest to hit our newsdesk last night is that they have released a colour version of the Nook reader.

Pricing is said to be around $250 and the main new feature is the 8 inch Vivid view colour LCD screen supplied by LG. The new device will also run via Google Android but without the market options – meaning it will be a half way house between an ebook reader and a fully kitted out tablet.

The Nook will have support for Pandora Radio, games, Google and wikipedia as well as a contact manager for businessmen or active consumers. Barnes and Noble will also be incorporating a new social networking option called ‘Nook Friends', which allows sharing of quotes and even books. There will also be a magazine reader installed which will prove popular with a specific audience.

The colour device will be half an inch thick and has a screen resolution of 1024×600, laminated to help reduce glare associated with these panels. MicroSD is offered for storage and there is Wi-FI connectivity.

KitGuru says: At only $100 more than the latest Kindle, there seems to be a lot on offer, but as a pure ebook reader we aren't so sure the screen technology will be ideal.
