PewDiePie closes Youtube comments for good

The world's most subscribed Youtuber, Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg, has announced that he will no longer be allowing Youtube comments on any of his videos. He will however be looking to other avenues for back and forth discussion with the “bros,” through Twitter, Facebook and Reddit.

The reasoning behind the move is said to be because of the sheer amount of nonsense that he and everyone else has to wade through in each comment section. The price of being the biggest channel on Youtube (with over 30 million subscribers at this point) is that lots of people try and piggyback off of the success of each video with links to their own content, there's a lot of spam and trolls and discussions that ultimately, Kjellberg doesn't have time to wade through. “I want to see what you bros say,” he clarified, but said that he doesn't care about all the nonsense not associated with the videos. In the future, he'll be posting hashtags and taking to the official subreddit to speak with fans and to read comments. Since those places aren't as linked to the videos, the hope is that there will be less spam associated.

You did this!

He also thanked the fanbase for helping him hit the 30 million subscriber milestone, something that no one has ever achieved on the site.

KitGuru Says: It seems like a lot of popular Youtube channels suffer with this issue. Is it something that can be fixed, or is it the sad fate of popular channels that comments eventually become redundant?

  1. Maybe he’ll stop raging at people as well.

  2. I thought the point of comments was to discuss shit with people, basically, he has raged at one to many people and maybe can not take the pressure?

  3. Imagine having more than a hundred videos, and in each one there’ll be some people who tend to get on your nerves. Your update log must be outrageous. If he’s doing it solo I can understand why he’s breaking down. Maybe he needs more admins.

  4. I dont get it really he makes $35K per day by making Video’s of himself raging at shit half of which is likely “canned rage” and is now complaining because some commentors are not talking about “him” and “his video” people trolling/spamming and talking random shit are what happens on the internet so suck it up bro !

  5. u mad?

  6. no just think its a tad hypocritical to be bitching/raging about the people that make him $7 Million a year when all of his “content” is just bitching and raging, talk about biting off the hand that feeds you.

  7. I don’t think you understood what Felix said in his video.

  8. I would ignore the trolls, there will always be idiots with to much freedom and no sense of consequence for their actions who “chat shit” on the internet, i suppose its not going to hurt his revenue, he is the most subscribed most watched youtuber of all time.

  9. It’s worth noting that this is a huge PR fail for Youtube (and Google+) having utterly failed to create a scalable comment/discussion management solution for the big and popular channels.

  10. this is wrong he put comments back in and if people are dicks hes gonna ban them

  11. You guys are failing to see the entire point. Probably at LEAST 50% of the comments on a youtubers page are complete and utter bullshit spam and garbage. Nothing useful nor anything posted by an actual *fan* who got him there. Just trying to wade through it would be a huge time wasting pain in the ass. It is not his job to do it. Come up with a good way to completely get rid of people who are spammers/idiots/assholes/time wasters then maybe I will agree with you. Until then I totally understand and support his decision.

  12. No almost 90% of the games he plays, or the topics he talks about. All come back to his interaction with his subscribers. He was made famous by them, why is it bad he actually wants to continue keeping in contact with them and not the other crap. If someone really likes him, they will use the reddit or twitter like he wants them to and he will be able to speak more directly with his fan base. Tons of youtubers do it, especially the ones with large communities.

Good i hope he also close his channel his videos are retarded
