If you're a Playstation owner hoping to see EA's new subscription service arrive on the platform then you're going to be disappointed as Sony is claiming that EA Access doesn't deliver the value Playstation customers have come to expect.
Sony officially passed on the service a company spokesperson told Game Informer: “We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect.”
“PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”
The service is currently in beta but will open up to the public later this year. In the UK, EA Access will cost £3.99 a month, so far four games are confirmed to be available on the service including Battlefield 4, Madden 14, Fifa 14 and Peggle 2.

KitGuru Says: I actually quite like the idea of EA access. EA has a huge catalog of games that it could include in the subscription. Unfortunately, the service is only available on the Xbox One, which limits its customer base and could slow down plans to increase the amount of games available. What did you guys think of EA access?

I really like owning my games. I don’t feel comfortable when games become a service rather than a product I own
I just don’t like the idea as games as a subscription service. This is something EA and Activision have planned for some time, because if games are a subscription, your rights regarding them are substantially diminished.
I hope this fails, hard, so that it does not become the norm.
If this continues, publishers will stop selling games and move to a subscription model. Then, they’ll start jacking the price. You can be 100% guaranteed this is what will happen. It’ll start at $5pm, then it’ll be $10. Then it’ll be tiered. Before we know it, it’d be $40pm for each publisher.
Prices are a little mad, but that’s EA in a nutshell, but the idea is good. I reckon one of the reasons to why Sony don’t like this as they’ve got their PlayStation Now service to arrive soon so why promote something almost similar concept wise with another high price?
I think EA have a good plan but will allows development for this in future…
for 30 bucks a year its not a bad deal at all. considering that i play fifa and madden those games alone cost me 120 so for 30 bucks i would for sure sign up. plus you can play the game whenever you want so its basically like owning it except instead of a disc its digital. even if the charged 60 a year i would still sign up because i would get more than one game to play with. the biggest downfall i can think of is that ea doesnt let the subscribers play the latest games like madden 15 or fifa 15. but even if i have to wait a month before those games become available to play i still wouldnt mind. think about it this way would you spend 60 every year on one ea game and than go out the next year and pay another 60 for an updated version of the same game and barely play the older game. i wouldn’t do that. with the subscription you can always come back and play the old games and new games and over time the library will grow.
Its nice only for old old games only. I rather pay 5 bucks a month unlike sony has games for $30 for 90 days bullshit. Almost every game has different price range ….fail. i hope ea makes there subscription even better.
If its cheaper on xbone will good by sony……..

And the fact that it’s mandatory, if you own a PS4 and want to play online, of course. 😉
