The Xbox One reveal was mostly a disaster but the console had a few redeeming features, one of which was Microsoft's game sharing program. Since Microsoft reversed its policies, this feature disappeared but Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has said that the sharing plan is set to return, it just has a few more challenges now.

Speaking to Gamer Tag Radio, Spencer said: “We looked at the digital features that we had talked about last year and as a gamer there were a lot of those features that I think really resonated and were smart features for people who really have a lot of games and maybe play on a couple consoles or have bunch of people in the house or want to share with friends.”

“As I look at our monthly update roadmap, those kind of features are in our roadmap. There is a little bit of a challenge now that you've got DRM on a disc.”

Microsoft has previously said that users should look at the sharing program as postponed rather than scrapped completely. The sharing program was originally going to allow you to list up to ten Xbox Live accounts as your “family”, you could then share games with them digitally and physically. We don't know if the rules will stay the same when the feature comes back but hopefully it will stay similar to the original plan.

Valve has since added this feature in to Steam, you can now authorize up to five Steam accounts to have access to your library of games.

KitGuru Says: Digitally sharing games is something that needs to become standard as we move further away from physical media. All Microsoft has to do is make sharing as unrestricted as Steam now has and it will have one up on Sony. I can see the tables starting to turn in Microsoft's direction honestly.
