Procedural, open world space-sim steals show

At the VGX awards ceremony over the weekend, footage was shown from an upcoming game being developed by a small team over at Hello Games and it completely stole the show. It's a procedurally generated, open sandbox title that features hundreds of planets, suns and solar systems, giving the player the ability to go anywhere and everywhere, from the bottom of a planet's ocean, all the way into the far reaches of space.

This is the trailer that wowed audiences and presenters alike: [yframe url='https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRpDn5qPp3s']

It was released with the tagline description: “Every planet procedural. Every planet unique. Every planet unexplored.”

Those are some very ambitious claims, especially since the team working on the game's universe are few in number; four in-fact. However they aren't stopping there, suggesting that each planet will have its owl ecology and ecosystem and beyond that, other planets in the distance will be being played on by other players. And you'll be able to get up close and personal with them too, since heading into space and shooting up their mother ships is going to be a big component of gameplay.
