Xbox One outsold Xbox 360 at launch

Microsoft has come out and said it, this was the biggest Xbox launch ever, which puts it ahead of its last generation fan-favourite, the Xbox 360. With over a million consoles sold, Microsoft's now-current-gen machine is sitting right alongside Sony which also managed to sell that many in its first 24 hours. Of course though, Sony's machine only went on sale in the US and still has to launch in many more major markets, so there's still some time left in round one of the new console wars.

“The team is excited to confirm the launch of Xbox One was the biggest launch in Xbox history,” said Microsoft in a release. “Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers.  We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers.”

The celebrate its triumphant launch however, Microsoft has been dishing out some early statistics on what people have been doing in-game.

  • Over 60 million zombies have been killed in “Dead Rising 3”
  • Over 3.6 million miles driven in “Forza Motorsport 5″
  • Over 7.1 million combos in “Killer Instinct”
  • Over 8.5 million enemies defeated in “Ryse: Son of Rome”

But it's not been all about games. Xbox Fitness has seen a look in too, with over 43.3 million points earned.

“Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season,” said Microsoft's corporate VP of marketing, Yusuf Medhi.
