Microsoft is looking to keep its customers in shape with its new fitness app, developed for the Xbox one. All Xbox live gold subscribers will have access to the app, which uses the Kinect sensor to keep you on track with exercise programmes such as: INSANITY and P90x.
With many potential buyers still confused about the usefulness of Kinect, Microsoft has had a hard time trying to get people excited about the new and improved iteration. This app could be the start of legitimate uses for Kinect 2.0. With the new sensor, this app will be able to monitor your heart rate, balance, form, muscle mass and performance through exercise programmes.
INSANITY trainer, Shaun T, gave a few words on Xbox Fitness:
“What makes Xbox Fitness so innovative is the feedback it gives you. The Kinect sensor can evaluate your form, tell how high you’re jumping, how hard you’re punching and even read your heart rate. It’s that little missing piece of validation that hasn’t been possible for home fitness products before. Xbox Fitness completes the puzzle.” [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90vnJ_cNKf0′]
Starting in December Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get one year access to this app for free, after that we don't know how expensive it could end up being. Without any demo's or first hand experiences to go off, it's hard to tell how much good this app is really going to do. I just don't see gamers wanting to take a break from their reality escaping adventures to do push ups in front of the TV.
KitGuru Says: So far I don't know anyone who has enjoyed owning the first Kinect, it's a bit early to call the jury out on Kinect 2.0 but so far, it isn't really impressing me. Would you make use of this new fitness app?
